WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) today released the following statement after voting against the President’s Iran Deal: H.R. 3461, To approve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed at Vienna on July 14, 2015, relating to the nuclear program of Iran.

“My top priority has always been, and will continue to remain, protecting Americans and our friends and allies. This is not the end of the fight to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons,” said Congressman Austin Scott. “The President’s deal unfreezes tens of billions of dollars with no limit or prohibitions on how much Iran can use to purchase any weapons system that the Iranians deem defensive, which increases the risk to our forces in the region and the safety of American citizens here at home.”

In addition to voting against the President’s Iran Deal, Congressman Scott supported H.Res. 411, which states that the President did not comply with section 2 of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (INARA) when the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was transmitted to Congress.  The JCPOA includes documents that were not submitted to Congress on July 19, 2015 to ensure that Congress had the mandated 60 days to review the full agreement.  Congressman Scott also supported H.R. 3460, which would suspend the President’s authority to lift sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program until January 21, 2017.
