WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) today issued the following statement upon the American Health Care Act of 2017 (H.R. 1628) passing the House.
“Over the last several years, I've heard time and time again the negative effects the ACA has had on hard working families, small businesses, and American health care providers, and today the House voted to roll back some of the ACA’s most straining provisions and inject much-needed competition into the marketplace,” said Rep. Scott. “As this bill heads to the Senate, I look forward to continue working towards health care solutions.”
Today’s legislation would repeal some of the ACA’s most burdensome sections including the individual and employer mandates, tax increases associated with the ACA, and ACA subsidies in 2020. The legislation would also provide tax credits for individuals and families who do not get health insurance through their employer or the government, expand popular Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), freeze Medicaid expansion, provides protections for patients with preexisting conditions, and gives flexibility to states to meet the diverse health care needs of their citizens, among other things.
