WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) released the following statement upon voting to end the three-day government shutdown. Congressman Scott also supported the House passed funding bill last Thursday that would have prevented the government shutdown if it had not been blocked in the Senate.

“Congress has now voted to reopen the government, fund our military, fund the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and pay federal employees and our civilian workforce - in spite of the whims of a minority of the Senate that created this senseless government shutdown in the first place,” said Rep. Scott.

Rep. Scott continued: “While I am glad to see governmental operations return to normal, the issue remains: Short-term spending measures are a detriment to our government, including our military and national defense. I remain committed to fighting for a regular appropriations process that provides for our common defense and responsibly appropriates the taxpayer dollars we are entrusted to allocate.”

Included in today’s legislation was a measure to provide back-pay to furloughed federal employees and civilian workforce supporting the Department of Defense. The short term measure expires on February 8, 2018.
