Rep. Austin Scott Statement on New Proposed WOTUS Rule
December 11, 2018WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08), a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee, today released the following statement after the after the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement to significantly scale back the definition of “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS). In 2015, under the Obama Administration, the EPA finalized a joint rule with the Army Corps of Engineers to expand the definition of WOTUS under the Clean Water Act, broadening the federal government’s regulatory authority of virtually any place where water flows across the country.
“The last Administration’s WOTUS rule was overreaching and detrimental to American farmers. I'm very glad to see EPA's new proposed ‘Waters of the United States’ rule and a roll back of burdensome regulations that stifled production and did little to further protect our natural resources,” said Rep. Scott.
