Rep. Austin Scott Statement on Agreement To Cut Spending, Keep Government Open

Apr 8, 2011

Washington D.C. -  U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) released a statement regarding the agreement that House Republicans, led by Speaker John Boehner, reached with Senator Harry Reid and Senate Democrats:

“The language in this bill is just as important as the dollar amount.  I am pleased that Speaker Boehner continued to force the President and Senator Reid to put the will of the American people ahead of their own political agendas.  This is only the first step in our fight to return America to the path of fiscal responsibility.  There will be more battles, and more bold votes, but House Republicans will continue to fulfill our pledge to America and pursue necessary and responsible spending cuts.”

FOR BACKGROUND:The language in this bill requires the Senate to hold a stand alone vote to repeal Obamacare in addition to a stand alone vote to defund Planned Parenthood.
