TIFTON, GA – This week, U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) honored four graduating high school seniors who have earned appointments to U.S. Military Service Academies. Each appointee was recognized at one of two ceremonies in Houston and Lowndes counties this week, and each was presented with a Congressional Certificate recognizing their achievements.

“Attending one of our U.S. Military Service Academies is a real honor, and it is only the best of the best that get selected to attend an Academy,” said Rep. Scott. “This is an extraordinary achievement that these young men have spent years working towards, and I congratulate them on the hard work they have accomplished to get here. I look forward to seeing their continued success and thank them for their service to our country.”

The following seniors were recognized this week:

  • Harrison Booth, Houston County High School – U.S. Air Force Academy
  • Jackson Danner, a high school senior from Lowndes County – U.S. Military Academy, West Point
  • Steven Landreth, Northside High School – U.S. Naval Academy
  • William Sawyer, Perry High School - U.S. Naval Academy

In addition to the great achievements of these four individuals, Chase Parrish from Colquitt County has also received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.  Chase was a 2016 graduate of Colquitt County High School and has been at the Naval Academy Preparatory School this past year.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
