Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.) says he's just as concerned about border security as are the people who live in actual, overrun border states.

"Look, I have a four-year-old seven-year-old, so this is one things that keeps me up at night -- the amount of fentanyl that we've seized in this country, it's enough to wipe out a couple generations. Now you're seeing it come over from China, trafficked through the cartels, and where it looks like a sweet tart."

(Appearing on Fox News shortly after Rep. Scott, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott warned of a looming catastrophe in coming days; more on that below.)

Fox News reported last week that Customs and Border Protection agents at the port of entry in Nogales, Arizona have seized hundreds of thousands of colored fentanyl pills with a "candy-like" appearance from smugglers.

"CBP says could be the start of a new trend w/ cartels targeting younger users," Fox News's Bill Melugin tweeted.

The failure to impose border security "is a dereliction of duty for those of us who are elected," Austin said, "and you've got these major metropolitan area Democrats that represent these cities where they're now saying they're going to allow people aren't U.S. citizens to vote.

"And so I think the governor of Texas is doing exactly the right thing -- he is -- he's sending the illegal immigrants to the area that is responsible for the lack of border security, and so if the City of New York is going to allow noncitizens to vote in their elections, then I think the governor's made a good choice on where to send them."

Gov. Greg Abbott, a Texas Republican, has infuriated city leaders in New York and Washington by sending almost-daily busloads of illegal aliens to those cities, thousands of them so far.

On Thursday, Abbot told Fox News he has invited the mayors of New York and Washington to come to the border:

"Most of America has not really understood the magnitude of the problem that we have on the border until we started sending buses up to New York. Remember, this is not a Texas problem. This is an American problem caused by the president of the United States of America. And so many people have been blind to this until suddenly buses of migrants started showing up in their city, which is a sanctuary city, by the way.

"But we still have an open invitation to the mayor of New York to come down to Texas and see exactly what's going on. Americans in places like New York would benefit from that, because if all Americans saw what we see every single day, they would be trying to put pressure on the president like we have been doing to change the president's policies.

"Remember this, two years ago we had the lowest border crossings in decades. And when president Biden took over, he eliminated all the policies that created a secure border, and now we have the highest number of illegal border crossings ever."

Abbott noted that way too many Americans are dying every day because of the fentanyl that is coming across the border from Mexico:

"Law enforcement has seized enough fentanyl to kill every man, woman and child in America. And so this is extraordinarily dangerous. They are doing nothing about it.

“And I'll add to this, because this is also an all-time record: Under the Trump administration, for four years, there were about 11 people on the terrorist watch list who were apprehended coming across the border.

“Under the Biden administration I think that number is now over 80 in just less than two years. Those are the people who are caught. The people on terrorist watch list, they pay more to the cartels to evade detection.

“And so what we do not know is the number of terrorists who have made it across the border who are infiltrating the United States of America.

“My point is this. What the president of the United States is doing, he is abandoning his responsibility for national security, to keep our country safe against terrorists and as well as to keep our country safe from deadly drugs like fentanyl. We've already had an outbreak of fentanyl deaths. It could be catastrophic here in the coming months.”
