Members of the Crisp county community got to meet with Congressman Austin Scott early this afternoon.

CBS 44’s Brian Roche tells us what the congressman is working on for the people he represents.

As concerns rise in Washington, Congressman, Austin Scott met with members of the Cordele Rotary Club here in Crisp county to talk about those concerns creeping their way into South Georgia.

And one of those issues?

The indictment of former President Donald Trump, in New York…

“I think it’s ridiculous. If you look at what this DA did, up there, he’s so proud that he charged him with 35 separate counts. If you look at the way he did it, he indicted him three times per one check,” said Congressman Austin Scott, 8th District, Georgia.

Aside from the former President’s indictment, Congressman Scott spoke about issues that are hitting a little closer to home for Georgia’s 8th district…

Like the continuing inflation…

“Inflation is killing us. I mean the unfortunate thing is…it’s bad policy inside the United States that have led to higher fuel prices, and higher energy prices. And, those higher energy prices are embedded into the cost of everything that we do,” said Congressman Scott.

It’s not just the ongoing inflation that Congressman Scott spoke with the Crisp county community about, but his work on a new farm bill.

“Unfortunately, the current scenario has 82 percent of farm bill spending going to snap, and issues that are unrelated to production and agriculture. So, there are things that we have got to do in the farm bill. We’ve got to get reference prices more reflective of the prices of diesel and fertilizer, and the inputs and risk in agriculture,” said Congressman Scott.

And, some members of the community are sharing some of the frustrations that Congressman Scott has towards Washington…

Especially with regard to the state getting the money it needs.

“We’ve been voted nine years in a row, the best state to do business in. Nine years in a row, that’s just bringing in volumes of people. And, we have got to get our roads and our bridges, and our infrastructure intact. The federal government is not sending the money for the amount of taxes that we are paying into,” said Senator Carden Summers, Georgia State Senate, 13th District.

Congressman Scott has recently been working with fellow Georgia Congressman Sanford Bishop to support the United States’ pecan farmers.
