WASHINGTON, D.C.-- U.S. Representative Austin Scott (GA-08) joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) and Taiwanese Ambassador to the United States Bi-khim Hsiao at a China Task Force roundtable to discuss how to support Taiwan while they face threats from the Chinese Communist Party.

“When we talk about Communist China, we have to recognize that communism in and of itself is a threat to the free world,” Scott said. “If China makes a move, it won't just be the United States to come to Taiwan’s aid. Australia, Japan, and India are committed. We need to make sure that Communist China understands there is going to be a whole lot more pain than benefit for moving against Taiwan.”

In another effort to support Taiwan, Scott’s amendment to invite Taiwan’s Navy to Participate in RIMPAC 2024, the world’s largest maritime warfare exercise, was adopted into the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The FY23 NDAA passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 329-101.
