TIFTON, GA – Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in response to the situation in Afghanistan:

“The United States spent two decades in Afghanistan training and equipping Afghan forces, rooting out terrorism, and supporting pro-Democracy initiatives that positively impacted women, children, and the quality of life in Afghanistan. Thousands of Americans and Afghans perished in the country fighting the Taliban and other terrorist organizations,” said Rep. Scott. “How did the fall of Afghanistan happen in a matter of hours? Speaker Pelosi must call Congress back to Washington for classified briefings on the situation in Afghanistan. Tough questions need to be asked and they need to be answered. Anything else is nothing other than protection of President Joe Biden at all costs regardless of the consequences to America.”
