WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) today released the following statement on the House passage of H.R. 3009, the Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act, which would restrict certain grant funds for states or local governments, otherwise known as “sanctuary cities”, that fail to enforce immigration laws that protect Americans:

“The United States is a country of laws, and in order to protect Americans right here at home, we trust our states and local governments to report illegal immigrants in accordance to federal immigration policy,” said Congressman Austin Scott.  “When these laws are blatantly disregarded, our nation’s citizens are put at risk.  The United States should not be a ‘sanctuary’ for criminals or illegal immigrants; it should be a ‘sanctuary’ for our law-abiding citizens and hard earned, taxpayer dollars should not be funding ‘sanctuary cities’ and those who ignore the law.”
