WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) today joined the House Armed Services Committee in approving H.R. 4435, the Fiscal Year 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Rep. Scott, who serves on the Readiness, Military Personnel, and Oversight Subcommittees, represents Robins and Moody Air Force Bases.

Rep. Scott joined Rep. Hartzler (R-MO) and Rep. Barber (D-AZ) to offer a bipartisan amendment to preserve the A-10 fleet and require a study to ensure that troops have adequate close air support.  The amendment passed with a vote of 41-20. Moody Air Force Base has two squadrons of the A-10C Warthogs.

The NDAA rejects President Obama’s request for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and his proposed cuts to military benefits including TRICARE, Housing Allowances, and Commissary benefits.

“Today, the House Armed Services Committee sent a strong signal that they understand the importance of the A-10C Warthog and the close air support capability it provides is essential to our nation’s defense,” said Congressman Scott. “I am grateful that the members of the committee came together to preserve funding for the A-10C Warthog flown out of Moody Air Force Base and invest in the future replacement of the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) aircraft which are flown out of Robins Air Force Base. I am proud to serve as a voice for Robins and Moody on the committee, and I applaud the committee for their focus on supporting and protecting our service men and women and their families.”

The NDAA is expected to be considered by the full House in two weeks.
