WASHINGTON – Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed an amendment introduced by U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) to H.R. 2397, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which would end the furloughs of civilian employees funded through Defense Working Capital Funds (WCF).

“The current furloughs of Working Capital Funds workers are not yielding direct savings, and will likely lead to future cost overruns due to delayed production, overhead increases and overtime compensation,” said Congressman Scott. “This is a sensible, bipartisan solution to ensure that our defense civilian workers at depots and air logistics complexes, such as those at Robins Air Force Base, can continue to do the important work of providing defense readiness.”

Congressman Scott co-sponsored the bipartisan amendment with Reps. Tom Cole (R-OK), Derek Kilmer (D-WA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Rob Bishop (R-UT) and Dave Loebsack (D-IA).

Scott discussed his amendment and other actions he’s taken to address the furloughs and cuts to Defense funding during a short question and answer video clip here.
