2012 Farm Tour Reaches Entire 8th District

Warner Robins, GA – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) embarked on a two day Farm Tour last Wednesday and Thursday that took him to eleven farms spanning the entire 8th Congressional District of Georgia.  Rep. Scott heard thoughts and concerns from dozens of local farmers.  The conversations centered around the still pending Farm Bill legislation and concerns about too much government regulation. Rep. Scott was joined by several members of his Agriculture Advisory Board,  as well as Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture, Gary Black, for several stops of the tour.

During a stop at Sam Dykes’ farm in Cochran, GA on the second day of the tour, the conversation turned to the impact the Estate Tax, commonly known as the “Death Tax”, would have on family farms.  Mr. Dykes told Rep. Scott, "I'm sitting on my retirement-- this land. [The] Estate tax is going to impact us all. Agriculture is land rich and money poor. We can't afford for the Estate Tax to come back.

Mr. Dykes went on to say, “You want to keep the family farm running? Get rid of the Federal Estate Tax-- that's the number one thing you can do."
