Washington D.C. - Representative Austin Scott (GA-08) votes "no" on Tuesday's vote to increase the nation's borrowing capacity:

"I cannot vote for an increase in the debt ceiling, which would saddle future generations with a great debt burden, if the President is not willing to rein in his own spending habits.

"The Federal government is spending a trillion and a half dollars more than it takes in.  I came to Congress to stop runaway spending, not enable it.  Therefore, I have made it clear to the Leadership in the House that such an increase must absolutely be accompanied by major structural spending reforms and/or significant spending cuts exceeding the level of the debt increase."
