February 23, 2011Rep. Austin Scott Applauds Boeing Tanker Contract
Washington D.C. - U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) made the following statement today after the Air Force announced their intentions to award Boeing the new contract for the next aerial refueling tanker:
“Today’s announcement is a win for our Air Force, our Country, our state and district. Boeing is a strong American company and today’s long-awaited announcement will bring strong, American, jobs to our state - specifically the 8th Congressional District. Because of Boeing’s “NewGen Tanker” program, Georgia stands to gain more than 370 jobs and it will bring in more than $17 million annually to our state. I encourage my colleagues to stand behind the Air Force’s decision and work to get the new aerial refueling program underway as soon as possible.”
For Background: According to Boeing, “The NewGen Tanker is a widebody, multi-mission aircraft based on the proven Boeing 767 commercial airplane and updated with the latest and most advanced technology. Capable of fulfilling the Air Force's needs for transport of fuel, cargo, passengers and patients, the combat-ready NewGen Tanker will meet or exceed the 372 mandatory requirements described in the service's final KC-X Request for Proposal.”
