WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Representative Austin Scott (GA-08) today opposed the left's $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package.

"This bill spends almost 2 trillion dollars, requires a massive debt limit increase to fund, and will further increase inflation on Americans," Scott said. "This bill literally takes working Americans' tax dollars and uses your money to provide security for borders in the Middle East while our country’s southern border is being overrun due to the Democrat's open-door policies. Those who did this set up the worst possible scenario for America: increased inflation, higher interest rates, and a potential default of our currency."

The bill provides $1.646 trillion in non-emergency discretionary spending, including over $12 billion in additional funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and $3.46 billion for progressive climate programs at the Department of Energy, while failing to give adequate funds to support overwhelmed agents at the southern border.

The 8% increase in spending on non-defense programs is on top of the trillions of dollars Democrats have allocated outside of the normal appropriations process over the past two years. Overall, this bill is projected to cost taxpayers approximately $2 trillion.
