Congressman Scott Announces Subcommittee Hearing to Review the Smith-Lever Act on its 100th Anniversary
WASHINGTON–U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08), chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology and Foreign Agriculture, today announced a public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. to review the Smith-Lever Act on its 100th anniversary.
The purpose of the hearing will be to review the past 100 years since the Smith-Lever Act was signed into law on May 8, 1914 in order to gain an understanding of the role the nation’s land-grant colleges and universities play in providing for the needs of the public through the resources and extension work established in the Smith-Lever Act.
