WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Austin Scott (GA-08) today released the below statement following a memorial ceremony at the U.S. Capitol honoring the late Reverend Billy Graham. Rev. Graham, who passed away last week at the age of 99, dedicated his life to proclaiming the gospel—traveling to 185 countries to preach in-person to over 200 million people. He also served as an advisor to 12 consecutive U.S. presidents and was a fierce advocate for civil rights and ecumenical inclusion. He was known as “America’s Pastor.”

“For decades, his teachings of the gospel have been a light to the world, and his legacy will be remembered as one of love, compassion, and godliness,” said Rep. Scott. “Today, I had the honor of paying my respects to Rev. Graham, whose life of service to God and his fellow man will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of the millions he helped around the world.”
