Congressman Austin Scott Regarding the House Passage of the Budget Conference Report

April 30, 2015
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) today released the following statement regarding the House of Representatives passage of S. Con. Res. 11, the Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Resolution Conference Report.  This legislation is the conference agreement to the House and Senate versions of the federal government’s budget.

“It was 2001 when the House and Senate last jointly produced a budget that balances, which is a common sense step to getting our fiscal house in order,” said Congressman Austin Scott.  “However, the big win today was for national defense. The House and the Senate came together to ensure that our military is adequately funded, which is important for the state of Georgia as our bases and assets play a large role in our country’s defense.

“I remained committed to working on behalf of our nation’s warfighters to ensure they have the resources they need to be well trained, equipped, and cared for.  As we continue our fight against terrorism abroad, our readiness back home becomes that much more important.”

This legislation also cuts spending by $5.3 trillion, repeals ObamaCare while allowing for more patient-centered reforms, and improves the efficiency, oversight, and accountability of the federal government.
